Sample map of a small cemetery showing areas surveyed with radar (gray hashing), headstones (gray boxes with
numbered labels), located burials (blue and pink boxes with depth labels inside) and other surface features
(ledgers, depressions, etc.).

Our Product
Virtual Underground uses an advanced Ground Penetrating Radar
array to map burials in relation to pins, plots, headstones and other
landmarks. Our maps show the separation, depth, and size of each
burial and can locate vaults made from all common materials (concrete,
plastic, metal, stone) as well as direct burials and lawn crypts. Results
are presented in both printed and electronic (CAD) format suitable for
merging with existing maps or as a standalone reference.
We can identify the locations of vaults and burials when records have
been lost or are inaccurate. Discover the boundaries of historic
cemeteries. Evidence of burial excavation can be mapped after many
years or even decades have passed.
Our technology allows us to survey several areas over a period of time
and integrate them into a single map. If you need an immediate answer
about a single section (or even an individual plot) in your cemetery we
can provide it. Later, a more comprehensive picture of your facility can
be created by combining these individual surveys into a single map and
merging them with any existing records that are available.
In addition to burial sites, we can provide the location of utility
lines/irrigation, foundations or buried structures and geological features
such as rocks and boulders on your property. These can be located
simultaneously with burials and presented on their own or in
combination with the burial plots.
- The radar mapped burials (the blue or
magenta boxes with small numbers in
the sample maps below) are located in
3-D with accurate depth.
- As part of our service, we conduct a
surface assessment of the surrounding
area as a reference (pins, curbs,
building lines, headstones, etc.).
- Results can be presented as printed
drawings and/or in a digital format
such as CAD.
- The depths we reach vary from 5'-8'
with a maximum of around 10' in most
areas.
- We can handle most surface
conditions that are somewhat smooth
and free of obstacles.
